Monday 4th October Departing
This morning we depart Lincolnshire and head to Llandrindod Wells to the Glen Usk Hotel, taking comfort stops en-route.
Hop on the 1902 Vale of Rheidol steam train for a 12-mile scenic journey through the Welsh mountain countryside reaching the beauty spot of Devils Bridge, with unusual 18th century bridges crossing the famous gorge and waterfalls. Before arriving in Aberystwyth with its coloured Victorian seafront buildings. Free time to stroll the 1-mile long promenade, passing the pier, marina and many shops and eateries.
Wednesday 6th October Snowdonia’s National Park Coastline
This morning we enjoy a bit of free time in Machynlleth, a quaint market town dating back to 1404. Along the shoreline of the Dovey Estuary to the pretty seaside town of Trwyn, we board the train for the for the 30-minute scenic coastal journey to Barmouth with free time in this attractive seaside resort with its expanse of msandy beach and panoramic views of Cardigan Bay. Returning via Cadir Idris, rising 3000ft above Dolgellau.
Thursday 7th October Brecon Beacons & Whisky Galore
We head 30 miles south this morning where the Brecon Beacons National Park lies. It has many of Wales’ most impressive natural landscapes. Once we reach the northern tip where Brecon lies, we head into the park, passing ancient red sandstone peaks, en-route to the much acclaimed Penderyn Whisky Distillery where we can enjoy a guided tour and 2 tastings. Afterwards, we then snake our way west, over the forbidding Black Mountains before reaching Llandovery with its ruined castle, for some more free time to take in it’s remote and atmospheric beauty.
Friday 8th October Returning
Our adventure here has sadly come to an end, so after breakfast we will return to Lincolnshire, taking comfort stops en-route.
